Paver FAQ
Can I install my concrete pavers directly on soil or sand?
Because of the many freeze/thaw cycles in our area, your pavers need to be placed on a base of gravel and sand. If they are installed on soil or sand alone, they will settle and shift.
Are concrete pavers strong enough for paving a driveway or roadway?
Our Unilock concrete pavers can be up to 3 ½ times the strength of poured concrete. In addition, they may be maintained by pulling up pavers and repairing base gravel if settling occurs. On the other hand, poured concrete cracks when settling occurs below.
Where can I find technical support if I have problems during paver installation?
Lavy Enterprises strives to provide the best service possible. This includes technical support. During installation, please contact us with your problems. If we cannot answer your questions by phone, we may even be able to pay a visit to your jobsite.
When I install a Unilock retaining wall system, will I need a footer and mortar?
No. These systems are designed for mortarless and footerless installation. Please ask Lavy Enterprises for an installation guide. We will be happy to explain how these systems work and direct you to a professional engineer if necessary.
Can any type of system be installed for any application?
No. There are many wall systems to choose from. Please ask Lavy enterprises for assistance choosing the proper wall system for your application. You will need to know how tall the wall will be, what style you are looking for, and have a sense of the current drainage in the area, and loading at the top of the wall.
I would like my wall to have the appearance of real stone. What should I use?
When choosing a natural-looking segmental retaining wall, look for a tumbled system. Unilock produce several walls which will blend well with natural surroundings. Or, use natural stone, also available at Lavy Enterprises.
My current wall is settling, moving, or falling over. Why is this happening?
We sometimes see walls fail whether they are made of stone, concrete, or wood. In order to avoid this, we recommend following basic installation instructions. These include proper base preparation, drainage, and backfill. In some cases, an engineer will be necessary to assist you with installation instructions for your specific project. This is money well-spent!
